A complete interior renovation for a 1970s Jardins apartment. The clients asked for something calm, material-led, and entirely free of period pastiche.
The existing apartment was stripped to its concrete shell. The structural ceiling was exposed and left raw. New walls are formed from rough plaster in a warm mid-tone. The kitchen island is a single slab of Nero Marquina marble on a brushed steel frame.
Joinery throughout is in solid walnut, oiled. Lighting is entirely indirect, embedded in coffers and concealed behind panels. The apartment reads as a single connected space during the day, with each room defined more by light quality than by walls.
Deep stone sills on the west-facing windows reduce glare without obscuring the view. A layer of medium-weight linen on ceiling tracks handles the afternoon sun.
