Casa Brava sits between the Atlantic forest and the historic centre of Paraty. The project uses a compact concrete structure and large openings to connect the interior with the surrounding vegetation.

The house is organised around a single long volume oriented to catch the prevailing wind and shade out the afternoon sun. Large sliding panels of cumaru and glass dissolve the boundary between inside and outside.

The kitchen and living areas open entirely onto a covered terrace that becomes the primary living space for most of the year. Local stone from Paraty was used for the external terracing and pool surround.

The site was previously a mango orchard. Eleven trees were retained; those felled for earthworks were milled on site and became the decking and interior joinery.
